Re: Re-plating pickup truck weight

Ideally your replacement tyres should match the gross weight of the (highest) axle weight (in most cases the rear axle) E.g. if your (highest) axle weight shown on the chassis plate is 1900kg, then a tyre load of 108 (two tyres at 1000kg = 2000kg load capacity) is sufficient to cover this axle weig...

Re: Re-plating pickup truck weight

I'm just about due to replace my tyres and also considering re-plating the truck. I was going to go for BFG AT tyres that everyone seems to recommend, but I've also seen people suggesting that you need tyres with a load rating of 112 or 114 for re-plating to 3500Kg, whereas the ATs are only rated at...

That Lada looks similar to this, though not as ugly. I seem to remember it was a kit by Kontiki that you could build on a donor Cortina or similar

Re: WTF! update update UPDATE!

Sorry to see this. It looks like the tailgate hasn't been taken off. I'm not too hot on physics, but does taking some of the the camper's weight on the tailgate increase the leverage on the chassis, and make fracture more likely? With my SKarosser I have to take the tailgate off my D40 to make room ...

Re: Legs down or not

In dodgy camping situations I take the fixed steps off and use one of these which I can easily pull in after me.

Shiny new Valance for my SKarosser

I mashed up my the rear skirt of my camper last summer with some over-enthusiastic reversing (unplanned 3 point turn due to wife-nav failure). Here is the repair with a bit of UPVC soffit board at cost of about £15. Quite pleased with that. http://i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag196/Guy_Gisborne/IMG_...

Re: Insurance

Having got combined truck / camper insurance from Campton, I rang my existing Truck insurer (Budget) to cancel the auto-renewal of my policy and had an 'interesting' conversation. When they asked why I was not renewing with them I explained that I was getting combined cover with my camper which work...
