Pure sine-wave inverters are very expensive compared to modified sine wave. I gave up on buying a pure sine wave model because of the price and the realisation that in reality I didn't need to run anything with a motor, transformer or anything else inductive, that would respond badly to the harmonics in the near-square-wave of the modified sine wave inverters.

But my laptop and camera power supplies don't care about the quality of the waveform because they use switch-mode power supplies.

Interestingly my new generator does have a built in pure sinewave inverter - it was a large part of the reason for buying it, since I did want to use that to run power tools.

PS - currently eating some Mrs Crumbles macaroons - thanks Zildjian :D

Steve.
