The mechanism looks very similar to my ratchet high lift farm jack. I will check it out tomorrow when its daylight.
That needs very little maintenance other than oil where shown in the manual.

I haven't used it in anger yet, I'm glad to say, so I am not sure how it works
other than it should lift 2000lb to about 4 foot
