What a difference (air springs)

I put the camper on the truck today and drove it for the first time since fitting the air bags and what a difference well worth fitting them.

I also got better tie down points on the front by going direct to the chassis. I'm a lot happier with the setup now :)

Also took the tailgate off to get rid of a bit of weight. I'm going to put it in the weighbridge next week.

Actually, just removing the tailgate makes quite a difference (just watch truck empty in the wet) the bags though are a no-brainer generally,

just remember to add a little when unloaded so they don't get damaged

I will have to play around with the pressures as it was a little bouncy but the body roll has gone.

Interesting, as I took the tailgate off as well this weekend, felt much better. Less porpoiseing I thought. Was just four bolts and easy to get off. Also the chassis tie down worked well, again just felt solid. All good improvements I would recommend.

Next question

What do you do with rear tyre pressures? they look like they need pumping up but are correct from the manual when loaded.

I think we might well add a poll on this presently, broadly in a band between 35-50 depending on how you find handling, reducing PSI when unloaded, my AT's are up to about 40 loaded but try it see how it looks/feels
(fronts a little lower)

Having been away this weekend we ran the air bags at 60psi and the drive was spot on very relaxed so I think we have found our right setup :)

Being able to adjust mine on the fly and with a gauge beside me to check, think I agree with 60 actually

We had been running at 50 but adjusted up to 55 then 60 while driving.

At 60psi the difference on country lanes was noticeable and I felt more confident at higher speeds due to less body roll and a lot less bounce.

I found +/- 10 PSI gave me a very different result with too low increasing the spongy feel, conversely above that too firm, the only time an increase works is rough roads and tracks but as I don't normally use them it hasn't been an issue yet
