There's a lot of nonsense promulgated about using gas to heat your space. If you lit the gas and went back to bed that would be stupid, but we kept the skylight a crack open and there was plenty of air getting in for combustion from around the door seals, which were pretty rubbish. By the time we had made a brew and cooked some brekky it was warm enough for Kathy to get out of bed and get dressed, during which time I would have warmed up the truck, punched in some satnav and got ready to roll.
We still use the same methods in our home built pod. Only difference is we now have a CO detector to warn us of impending death by noxious fumes. It's kept us warm and alive in some pretty cold conditions all over the mountainous regions of Europe, as you can see from the pics.

When it was cold, we lit the gas, boiled the kettle, fried some brekky and it was so small that was enough to warm it up. The Tandy was quite a bugger to take on and off and we did the best we could with what we had. It looked awful till I figured out how to fair the sides in with some 9mm upvc fascia. That gave us quite a lot of covered storage. 
The space in front was big enough for 10kg gas bottles and 25litre water containers, two of one and one of the other. Only reason we got rid was not being able to leave the bed made up and sit in the cabin at the same time. Plus, the fridge was a bugger to light and never worked right on 12v. It allowed us into some very wild spots as it was no wider than the truck and the rear overhang was nice and high.
