Pickup research

In our search for a pickup I had come to the conclusion that the Ford Ranger with it's 1175kg payload is the best for us. However I've just found a Mazda BT-50 which is just under 40kg less than the ranger but still ahead of the other main players.

http://vans.autotrader.co.uk/used-vans/ ... make/mazda

It's on the money for us and doesn't look too shabby, does anyone have any opinions on them or hands-on experience. We are wanting to put a Skarosser EC6L on it (when we find one)!!

Cheers
Chris

No direct experience, but it was my understanding that the Ford and Mazda were the same truck with with are badging excersise.
often the less well known version is cheaper due to customer brand perception and demand. Not sure why the payload s different.
For instance, my Chevrolet is also a Holden or Isuzu depending on market.
Almost identical other than bits of trim, but the Chevy is cheaper than it's identical Isuzu sibling purely because it's less well known, and thus less 'searched' by potential buyers.

There are no known inherent issues with that generation of Ranger. That price seems to be about £500 high for the mileage so negotiate.

Display my ignorance here, is it the Mazda with the handy rail down outside of tub to tie things too?

It is, wish more did that. But it looks agricultural and puts off sporty type buyers.

Thanks for the help rubberrat. I would hope to get it around 6k. I'm just still not sure about the extra payload, we would be living in it for 75% of the year and so the more weight the better!

I'd read they were the same as Ford, good to have it verified!

That's not a colour scheme, it's just back from a zombie hunt..

With regard to payload, I find that the longer we are away on the road, the less stuff we carry, inversely a weekend away ten miles up the coast, we might be over the load limit. But that's just us.
