DVLA - Re-plating and Taxation Class

So, having replated the truck to 3480Kg via SVS I duly sent the V5 of to DVLC to be udpated.
Got a letter back today saying "
I cannot issue you with a new V5C showing the change you have told us about as it affects the rate of vehicle tax due. Before you get a new V5C you must tax the vehicle under the new rate of tax/tax class."
Is this true? I thought it remained "Light Goods Vehicle" as long as it was under 3500Kg.

Do some research on a motorhome forum Guy... don't quote me as I'm not at all positive, but I have a feeling your RFL will actually be cheaper! Look on outandaboutlive.com - go to the motorhome forum and search.

This is a topic that will probably have a few of us interested in the result. Please post accordingly.

Unless someone advises me otherwise, I'm going to send my V5 back to them saying the taxation class hasn't changed and quoting the DVLA's 'Notes about Tax Classes’ (V355/1) which says the ‘Light Goods Vehicle’ taxation class covers
“vehicles designed for the carriage of goods and not exceeding 3,500kg revenue weight”.
It's with a heavy heart I enter into this kind of exchange with the bureaucrats - it doesn't usually go well.

TBH in my experience, motor vehicles are not the DVLAs strong suit.
I'll see what I can dig tomorrow about this.

You might want to bear in mind the hassle Mizzraf had dealing with Swansea, if you have to entrust them then at least make sure you keep copies and send it recorded delivery and if possible an actual name

So I wrote to DVLA pointing out their error and got my V5 back this morning with Revenue Weight updated correctly. Searched the envelope for an apology for wasting my time and postage but none found - they must have forgotten it.
The 'Max Permissible Mass' is still blank as it was before, which is preferable to it being too low as has been mentioned in the 'Need to lose some weight' thread.
19 days start to finish this correspondence with Swansea

Hi Alex, No, I went through SV Tech and then sent the certificate I got from them to DVLA to get my V5 amended. I think it is theoretically possible to do it yourself, but this is the easiest way. SV Tech seem to have got themselves a nice little money printing machine here.
Cheers,
