Tow bar = Insurance modification!

I have just read in to-days , 09/08/15, Sunday Times Driving section that you must notify your insurers if you have added a tow bar as this is considered a modification and will invaidate the policy if you have not disclosed the addition. I did not know this and as both my pick ups have a towbar i will be making this admission to them, the article says it might add £10 to £15 per year to the premium but better to be safe than sorry.

I just wondered if i'am the only person not to have know about this?

Your right, insurers don't especially like paying out, so a courtesy call if you add a towbar or anything structural like suspension mods is usually enough, sometimes they'll stick another tenner on maybe not

do it Friday PM when the weekend beckons

Boy racer knocked a kid down on a crossing, claimed it wasn't his fault despite witness's to accident, victim was very badly knocked about in fact
insurance Co picked hole in cars policy and went to town backing off paying a potential huge payout over everything non corsa-standard including;engine mods/exhaust/wheels/window & lens tint eventually refused to pay anything saying he hadn't disclosed ergo no cover.....sorry

In fact I called Campton to make sure my air suspension was included in policy given the money invested, got a polite thank you, but no increase for probably £1000 worth hardware, I would always just call,

part of our business is in fact supplying and applying vehicle wrap, some of it just this years' must have Carbon fibre 'look'
which I personally think looks naff, still.

DVLA pull the plug on people wrapping their vehicle a different colour without notifying them at same time

I spoke to my Insurance broker to-day to ask about tow bar fitting on my two pick ups, each has a different underwriter and was told that neither considers this a modification.

Phew, panic over for me.

I think to a degree its probably down to the broker, they listen to you mods and decide based on whoever the policy is lodged with whether or not its worth bothering to tot it up or not, or indeed bother calling to find out,

anyway its going on the list of things to discuss with campton later in the year

as we've got a few queries building up now :(
