Ranger sump

Just had my truck serviced . It had an oil leak , 2 front crank seals £78 for parts , a common fault apparently . It also had a leak from the sump . It had rusted through at the thin end on the side were it bolts to the block . It would be a good idea to check yours as this is also a common problem and a new sun from Ford is £500 . I got mine off eBay for £25 fortunately.

Good idea Jim, Rangers are a popular choice here so any glitches are worth noting same as campers (buyers guides)

generally if not always actually their owners are positive, Keith springs to mind, but he still has it and anyway
this is Keith after all

Had that pan had a knock at some point or been grounded on something like a tree stump?

last one I couldn't bash out a dent in had been literally stuck on a hidden stump

Hi Rob
It hadn't had a knock . It's position was furthest from the ground and up out of site . I think the truck had been standing for a while , I don't know if that had something to do with it , sumps are usually pretty oily things.

I had a Proton truck..the oilpan rusted through on that. Surprising for something bathed in oil but they do.
I welded up the pinholes.

BTW £500 for a sump!
