Hello All
I have had the gas valve replaced on my Suburban water heater .Some one had tried to get the old one apart and broken some screws .The new one is fitted , it is a SIT product , supplied from Italy .
Anyway I can't get it to light . I have followed the instructions . Any one got any tips ?
Thanks Jim

Hi. There is a knack to this and I often have trouble. I always have trouble lighting the pilot light but once that is light it's usually ok. You have to push the knob in on pilot and once lit you turn it to on. Your pilot light is easier to access than mine - that's where I struggle. I use one of those cooker type gas lighter things to light the pilot. Good luck.

I think that is what I am doing . Turn knob to Pilot and hold down . Not able to light and no smell of gas. There is gas to the valve and the pipe from the valve to the jet is clear .

By valve do you mean gas tap? There are gas taps for the boiler, hob and heater, mine is in cupboard under the hob, is that turned on? I take it all your other gas appliances are working ok?

I was thinking of getting rid of my boiler so I can fit a small cooker. I've been looker at the one below.

Yes , I have a 4 way manifold in the cupboard , all on , all other appliances work .
If I crack open the gas "in" pipe , to the square box (valve) in the photo I have gas there , but can't get any gas from the "out" pipe

Not yet . I have emailed the UK agent , but they do not have anyone technical !! They have forwarded my questions to the manufacturers in Italy . My main concern with the gas was that it was safe , my man tested it and all ok .I will probably rarely use the boiler .Will keep you posted .

Making some progress.
The new valve seems okay , but the pilot supply pipe is fractured . Any ideas where could get one made one up ? It's about 3mm diameter aluminium .
