reversing camera install
reversing camera install
Now I'm looking at putting a reversing/review camera on the camper
I've found what looks like a reasonable kit. My only question is how to power the camera/transmitter all the time the pickup has its engine running.
I know Zildjian runs his off the reversing light so it works for reversing only. Can I link into the 2nd 12v feed from the pickup to the camper (the one used for charging circuit) to do this, will it give me power when I switch on or is it controlled so it charges the pickup battery 1st before allowing current thru to the camper
cheers

Re: reversing camera install
Hi Steve
So just to clarify you switch on the pickup lights to get the rearview camera working

Re: reversing camera install
Which kit are you looking at Rich?
You 'can' power it all the time if you wish, although as Steve mentions its preferable I think to have at least some control over it.
My camera is mounted on and powered by the camper and transmits its signal via the little transmitter and receiver then mounted inside the trucks rear light cluster,
because the camera & its transmitter are powered off the campers reversing bulb circuit, the screen on the dashboard only comes to life when reverse is selected and works well,
there is reportedly a hack on hilux where you can utilise the built in sat nav screen and it doubles as a monitor

Re: reversing camera install
Same system if not components as mine then,
guessing you mean to install camera on camper and not the pick-up, so where are you planning to mount camera?

Re: reversing camera install
And if I wanted the camera on most of them time I'd power it off the sidelights,
they're a useful thing to have on most of the time, and it would save another cable to link rig up (and get ripped off when I forget to unhook it)
TBH I find the backing up really the only time I need it, & also someone gave me one of those bleeper/12v bulbs
and so that comes on as reversing light for good measure
rubberrat can keep his stoopid hooks, I got a bleeper so there
