According to a mechanic I know he says Ford gauges rise and fall as a self test when the ignition is turned on , I haven't noticed this before this event . I have a Jag X Type . I remember the gauges doing this when I had a duff battery . New battery all ok . I have just fitted a new battery to the truck but still no joy , will have to start taking things apart .

Today I cleaned up every earth I could find and removed the cluster . There are two plug connectors on the back . A black one which serves the warning lights and a white one who does the rest . With only the white one connected all it did was light the ABS warning light . I checked the pins and a number were receiving voltage and others to earth . I showed the results to an auto electrician and there was nothing obviously wrong with the results .I have found a company that will repair the cluster for £109 or £139 plus vat Inc post . Not as bad as I thought it might be . I hope it cures it.

Fixed ! I think
Had a call today from the repairers in London , cluster unrepairable , memory blown . Searched the net and spoke to a guy who knew exactly what he was talking about . If the car will not start without the dash fitted means the immobiliser part of the dash and a new dash would need programing . Mine started , bought a second hand dash from a local breakers ,£50, bingo , all works . The millage reads 25k more than mine and as I am on a limited milage insurance I will need to get that fixed . And the best fluke is the new guy I spoke to lives one mile from me and will do the milage for £50. I will drive it around for a bit to see it does not happen again firts. The original repairers still want £20 for testing .

Well it's mobile at last so that at least is cause for celebration,
Imo' in dash binacle cluster eh, wonder if that's common,
Certainly your fault wasn't common, not according to owners forum at least,
On the plus side that would likely make you the go-to-guy here in UK,

(you might need the repairer BTW) not that i'm fond of paying Toyota to confirm back to me what I already know though I know what your saying Jim

This is my key and fob . The key will open everything , the fob isn't really necessary . Apparently the key is also weird and most a auto lock smiths can't get the chipped blanks at a reasonable price . The cheapest I have seen is £75 , but that is up north somewhere.
I have no extra alarms , I think my man was Checking mine wasn't the 2006 + model with the dash/ immobiliser system , but I might have that wrong .
