Our Tischer Trail 200

We picked up our new to us Tischer Trail 200 last week. This is a 2006 model extremely well looked after by it previous fastidious owner.

Horrible journey, we planned to drive from Norfolk to Somerset to collect, stay with relatives overnight at Bath, then amble back the next day. A change of plan at home meant that we had to do the 600-plus mile round trip in one hit. 19 hours all together! not helped by three major accidents with full motorway closures on the return leg.

So far quite impressed with this simple Tischer.
This is a huge step down in terms of luxury and facilities, but is a compromise to give us a much needed lower air draught and very much smaller overall size and weight.
The trade off is well worth it for us as we travel a lot of less well surfaced roads in Southern Europe.

Loaded onto our Chevy LUV – fits nicely and low weight (yet to put on weighbridge) of under 600kg – Hardly noticed it was there on the 300 plus mile journey home. I did a fill to brim test - £46 of diesel to get to Somerset (Refilled about five miles from sellers house), £49 to get back home to Norfolk, so the Tischer is clearly quite aerodynamic and the weight doesn’t bother the truck at all.

Image

Short rear overhand and can leave tailgate in place. Nice addition of side roll out awning

Image

Interior shot from rear door. Similar layout to the SKarosser, but of course no bathroom in the 200. Seats are much bigger and a U-shaped seating around multi positional table. Table gets in the way for access to the bed though so best taken off at night.

Image

View from the bed. Nice headroom up here, but not at light and bright. One wondow and no Heiki rooflight.

Image

View of U shaped seating – table removed, and storage for a portapotti. Battery charging system to right.

Image

Decent sized 3 way fridge

Image

Simple kitchen area. 2 burner hob and sink with cold water only. Waste is stored in 510 litre container below sink or can be piped to external container. Small lift up flap to extend worktop – Only enough for coffee cups and a kettle without it..

Image

Overhead lockers on both sides. Storage is adequate and typical of a demountable. Small hanging wardrobe to rear.

Image

Camper demounts quite easily. A little more fuss than the Skarossr as all the legs are removed for travel. Fronts store in metal hangers to each side, rears need to be stored elsewhere. I may be able to wrap them and store them in the buck sides ( the access hatches for the turnbuckles are really big, over 600mm wide, but for now they are in the back of the truck on the floor.

Truma Heating – blown air, single outlet.

I’ll add more later when I take some pictures of my own.

I'll need the rears to stabilise. And now of course I have almost limitless carrying capacity. :)

Not tried yet. Anton had to remove his from his HiLux (2002) so probably.
Just getting the hang of these pinned legs too. But so far so good.

Your tischer looks very smart I must say, how old is that, do they still produce them to look like that?

Looks good on the Chevy. How's the build quality compared to your Karosser? If and when I sell on my Karosser I would probably go for a Tischer.

My view so far.. Tischer build seems identical to SKarosser. This one is a 2006 model but looks and feels newer.
I like the fibreglass sleeping pod.
It's nice and light and much easier to deal with but some people wouldn't like the 'back to vw camper' basic facilities. Those who travel far and light would love it.
This is the entry level model though, most other Tischer models will have normal equipment levels.
Hope to try it this coming weekend.
