WTF! update (or here we go again)
Re: WTF! update update!
"Torklift only sell through dealers and I ordered mine from http://www.panthercampers.com/ , the service was wonderful. Shipping cost as much as the product but well worth it. Check out Torklifts other stuff too, such as the folding steps, great stuff, the yanks really know about demountables. Ill post some pictures in the near future"
Yes please Que,
if you happen to have images of the installation needed as well that would be great, I looked at them some time back but whenever I came upon the import cost I decided against
thanks

Re: WTF! update update!
so are they an aftermarket device then and not offered with a camper when sold?
Re: WTF! update update!
I'd use them Mark, I think they're a good idea and seem de rigeur stateside
Re: WTF! update update!
I've looked at them and they look the business. Especially like the sprung fastenings to take the shock out. Problem with Karossers though I think is that the camper's mountings are all 'in board' of the buck sides, whereas these fittings connect outboard. Northstar being American, I guess would match this, but wouldn't Karosser and other European campers need new mountings to the camper?

Re: WTF! update update!
I actually moved the mountings of my Northstar from the outside to the inside of the buck similar to the S.Karossers. I looked at the Fastguns but was put off by the price and the cheaper option was to drill holes in the side of my buck to attach brackets which I didn't want to do.

Just look at the shipping.
Quite a bit more than just drilling 8 new holes in the underside of my camper.

Re: WTF! update update!
Take a look at the installation videos and demo video on the torklift website. One example of the effectiveness shows a hefty American truck and demountable on a forest road which had given way resulting in the whole rig rolling over onto its roof at the bottom of a ravine. The camper was crushed but still remained attached to the truck and the rescue team used the camper to attach winch lines to, to right the truck. The owner had the whole lot replaced as a write off under insurance but was still able to salvage the tiedowns and fastguns to use on his new rig. Will bander straps and buck eyes manage that?
The shipping is the downside and virtually doubles the cost of the tiedowns and fastgun turnbuckles, but I though it was well worth it as the rig has never shifted on the bed since. I think the figure for the clamping force when the fastgun turnbuckles are correctly set up is 300 pounds per corner, don't quote me on that it was about 6 years ago that I did this but it is a lot
The tricky bit is the attachment points. I'm not sure but I think the North Star already comes with the correct attachment points. The Apollo which we have, uses a kind of square tube plug in leg attachment so the judicial application of a large drill to the leg socket allows the Fastguns to be hooked in. The fast guns by the way have internal spring shock absorbers. The attachment is solid, quick to put on and take off, ( even the wife can do it). Love em.
