Ah, on the SKarosser the steps lift up over the rear door, but I guess I could take them off and leap up to the door - a good metre!
That would solve the blocking in thing too, without the steps the door will open and I could walk out over the bonnet of the close parker!

That would work. As long as you haven't been blocked in by a big flat fronted van. We parked at the end of a line of ambulances once outside an ambulance station in a strip town in france and one of rhem could have really spoiled our morning. It was ok though and we were close enough to the boulanger for the brekky run. Fresh quiche and warm croissants. Mmmmmmm

In dodgy camping situations I take the fixed steps off and use one of these which I can easily pull in after me.
