Re: Gas
Hi Al. Gas ain't cheap, whichever you use. We had a bad experience using butane when our gas froze in the Limousin at about minus 13C. So we switched to Calor propane and carry two bottles 3.9kg. Recently we've paid about £17.50 for these but they do last us a good week or so on the road.

Re: Gas
Camping Gaz is a useful option when travelling in Europe as it is universally available, but in the UK it is by far the most expensive gas.
Start searching you local 'items for Sale' sites for one or two Calor Lite bottles - they are expensive to hire from Calor but fairly cheap second hand.
Propane us the better gas option in demountables used in winter months.

Re: Gas
Posted previously in another post but, Gaslow now do a 2.7kg refillable system that'll fit small campers, so it suits the SKarosser's. If using this system in southern Europe and you plan to do winter camping, make sure you top your gas up in the UK, or in mountainous regions, as i've read that the propane mix in the lpg at warmer/sunnier elevations is less than at colder/hillier places.
Beauty of this system is it's easily transferable from vehicle to vehicle and you can fill up so much cheaper at regular fuel filling stations that have lpg.

Re: Gas
The big drawback of refillable lpg systems is that you won't be able to use the euro tunnel, And some ferries too.

Not true Keith. Vehicles powered by LPG are prohibited but LPG for domestic use is allowed.

Re: Gas
Ahah! Thanks for that. I have been wondering how they differentiated between lpg and propane, which are essentially the same thing. I apologise for the misleading information.TrueDink wrote:Not true Keith. Vehicles powered by LPG are prohibited but LPG for domestic use is allowed.![]()
