Sleeping under a heiki roof light when it's raining is no fun. It transmits the noise of rain drops a lot more than an insulated roof does. No good for light sleepers.
On the other point, you might improve the look by having the angle brackets on the inside where they would vanish behind the gear inside.

I did investigate the improbable approach you endorse,
access wouldn't allow plus the brackets look pretty spiffy and lend a utilitarian look.
