Given the rather large range in prices for 4x4 tyres and the requirement for some of the more expensive ones (BFG AT) for when you've got the demountable on. Is it a good idea to have a second set of wheels to put on your pick-up when driving around normally and not touring/camping? Looking on ebay and prices start at around £200 for a set of four/five, sometimes with tyres.
Your thoughts please?
Spare Wheels?
Re: Spare Wheels?
If you're sure you are not running your camper for a while then that would make some sense. lots of folk have winter wheels/tyres etc

I have two sets for my Navara. Because I live up North I have AT's fitted to a set of steels for the winter and normal road tyres on the alloys.

Seemed like a good idea to me also. Once i've picked my pickup, i'll look to source a spare wheel set.
Re: Spare Wheels?
I've got Goodyear Wranglers on my Navara. They call themselves an 'all weather' tyre, and they seem to give good enough traction in winter conditions. They're not serious off-roading tyres like ATs but I don't intentionally do much of that anyway, just crossing a muddy field every now and then. So I'm happy with just the one set of tyres.

Re: Spare Wheels?
the depth of tread on some of these all terrain tyres would look like years of use between replacement I suppose you need to balance out cost against buying another set of roadwheels, seems extravagant on first glance really
