Alternative eye hook mounting system

Today on Tortue (the French demountable community) an interesting alternative to our usual eye-bolt fixings onto the tub in four corners

so eyebolts where you'd expect to find them but mounted instead off the chassis rail properly

with an angle iron adaptor plate

so a U' bolt strapped upwards on the chassis rail>angle iron>eye bolt

Interesting idea just need to be careful not to trap any wires or pipes which tend to run down the inner or side part of the frame rail

Would the angle bracket not be better if it was welded on? Was going to put the eye bolts on my truck in a similar fashion. I have read the new Hi-Lux pickup bed is permanently attached to the chassis rails, so you can't unbolt it and take it off.

Saw a take on this carried out very professionally only recently but wasn't able to get good photo's

Its the eyebolt>Tub>more bolts>chassis that people have mentioned as a possible weak link, and although I've not yet seen this anywhere as having failed we can see the peace of mind this arrangement offers

Rich;
If its accessible for a neat weld then great, unfortunately just as you say though without the luxury of removing the tub to do just that, & the ability to slide this carrier back and forth before pinching it up is a good bet

seems a nice neat solution i would make that that u-bolt a bit wider to spread the load over a couple of inches length of the chassis rail if possible it good because unlike perhaps bolting through the rail that wouldnt reuire any change to the cars structure i think

I like that. Prefer the U bolt to welded bracket, a little more flex.

I'm inclined to go along on this one, while I've seen some very smart welding, without the angle being suitably shaped to transmit the stresses off away down the rail the best route is something enclosing the structure
(much like the Bimobil navara chassis 'patch')
