Bed layout

Can someone help me with this ?
Regarding the bed in the "luton" which models/ makes would you lie parallel to the axles ( not head at back wheels and feet at the front wheels) .My partner suffers with a bad back , so finds it difficult to do a 3 point turn to get out of bed . Any ideas ?

Hi jim, the term is either North/South or East/West, but generally most of them are E/W
some Northstar are N/S if thats what you were wanting, the other can with some DIY skills be converted to this by adding pull outs where your feet would go, i've looked at it myself but can't be bothered but some on here have made a pretty good job of it,

As I think before though Jim you're both more than welcome to stop by sometime and have a look around camper

see how it would work for you

You're correct, feet at 'kerb' so to speak
many people go looking for the alternative, then you both get a window beside you at least, but E/W (like the picture) is I suspect easier to access and more common and gives you 2M head to toe

Hi Jim
yes most of the campers have the layout above there was a Northstar on sale last week briefly) that had the other north-south layout but apparently not all of northstars even sport that layout in the pictures i have seen of conversions made to get tat n-s
set up it always looks awkward to get up onto the bed anyway

well thats what i think anyway

My bed in the EC6 is E-W and i will be modifying it to N-S in 2016. On the S Karossers it's quite easy to do. The under bed frame rails run N-S so the front trim board can be removed and replaced by a three piece trim board that has a slide out built in. S Karosser do an EC8 with this setup, but the slide outs are two singles on the outside. I want to put two fixed sections to the outside, giving room for each party to step down from the bed on to the seats. The centre section will slide out and is wide enough for one of the seat cushions to be used on top, in order to bring the level up. This gives me the extra length I need, I can cuddle up with my wife and we can both get in and out of bed without disturbing each other. You keep the existing layout, which helps with bedding and, even though the mattresses are running across your body, they're still comfy and supportive. The slide outs also do not interfere with the air movement required for the under-bed heating.
I can't speak for other demountable manufacturers, as i've not seen their bed construction methods. But it's definitely workable on S. Karossers.
