Apollo Demountable internal height

Post: # 9918Post Dave10101

Hi. I am looking for (think I am looking for) an Apollo demountable camper. A couple of questions if someone has a tape measure as I am not sure Apollo were correct.
From floor to ceiling what is the height? I am 6ft 4 and would need to be able to stand up inside.
What is the size of the double bed?

Finally would you avoid one with manual winding legs or does both manual and motor powered work equally well.
With the motor powered are they 12v motors or mains motors & if mains would they work off a 12v invertor.

My plan would to put it on an Isuzu Rodeo double cab. Can anyone see me needing to make modifications to the Isuzu?
Don't have an Apollo and don't have an Isuzu but both are potentially on the shopping list.

Many thanks, Dave.

I can run a tape measure over mine tonight and post the dimensions later. I don't think the internal height would be an issue.

The motors on the legs are 12v powered from the internal battery. It also comes with a manual winder should you have a power problem but it would take a long tome to mount it on the truck manually.

Your welcome to come and take a look at ours if it helps and you are not too far away from Sheffield.

hi Dave, no can't see an issue with Apollo/Isuzu. you'll benefit by installing a little air assisted suspension on rear axle, additionally to hook the camper on you'll likely need to ignore the factory fitted 'cargo hooks' as they are normally a bit pathetic and instead bolt four eye-bolts into truck beds floor, there are alternatives but most of them involve cutting the tub floor which you might be less keen on.

In terms of height the floor on nearly all of these campers is stepped halfway along normally to accommodate fresh water tank somewhere around dining area, 6'4 will likely mean a slight stoop just there at least,
and depending where you are in UK just ask and we'll find your nearest member and you're welcome to come along one weekend and try it for height and bed size though I don't see either will be an issue myself.

Apollo have the fallback option of manual winding, but will work powered equally as well on mains at home via its 12v circuit,
if you find a used unit with tired motors I understand a small hardcore of Apollo enthusiasts here recently sourced the correct replacement unit from abroad at a much better price than UK

My own camper (SKarosser EC6) was factory modified with extra height (+200mm). Firstly to fit a LandRover 130 HC, And secondly because the original purchasers were, like you, rather tall.

I have well over 6'4" at the lower floor level, and around 5'10" on the higher floor. The bed too will accommodate 6 footer plus folk.
I run it on a Chevrolet LUV which to all intents and purposes is an Isuzu Rodeo.

Actually if height is a worry then a version of camper like this might be of interest,
couple of things to bear in mind when viewing any used camper
print off a copy of relevant buyers guide and take along, Apollo/suntrekker/Tischer/Ranger/Nomad/Northstar/
buy a damp meter cheap from E-bay
There was something else crossed my mind and you'll have mail

2050mm on the Skarosser too (6'9") so plenty of headroom.

The floor closest to the bed steps up by 200mm giving storage space underneath and easier 'hop-up' access to the bed.

Hi. Many thanks for the information. Apollo were correct, as they said 7ft height at the back but I thought that is rather generous and doubted it.
So all is looking well.
It would be for myself, the wife and our 10 month old so I may need to modify a seat a little, or at least make a bar so he cannot fall on the floor

I am located in Stratford upon Avon and it would be good to look at one if anyone is willing for me to see there's and they are within a reasonable distance from me?

Many thanks, Dave.

The bottom bed would easily be altered to make a cot with a piece of MDF radiation pannel that would slide in.

We did the same in our first caravan for little ones.

Hi, we're just south of Weston Super Mare. We have an Apollo on an Amarok, had to put a frame in the truck bed to raise the camper up as the cab is higher than most.

Bookend mentioned a manual winder for the electric powered legs but on our older model (around 2004 we think) we don't have this so we've mocked up an attachment which fits a drill for emergencies.
