I did some write-ups of some of the modifications I made on my camper on the US RV.net site. Here are some links...

The roof went all soft and nasty, so I replaced that:

A few smaller projects:

The Ranger has plenty of torque and is therefore high-geared for economy. But that is not great for hill starts on 1:4 inclines, or just manoeuvring slowly. I therefore modified the 4x4 system to allow me to use low ratio in rear wheel drive to save the clutch in these scenarios:

I added airbags before travelling to Morocco. However, the truck didn't really need them and they have made the ride less comfortable

I initially tied the camper down using ratchet straps, but this wasn't very successful, so I evolved a chassis-mounted tie-down system over a period of time - follow the 4 pages below to see the stages:

The original absorption (3-way) fridge died, so I replaced it with a compressor fridge - though this wasn't without incident:

given the amount of work carried out in this 'my father's axe' of a camper would you say you are representative of a camper owner of this construction,
as in what is the typical life cycle of a camper

The runners look great I had been thinking of something simular but I was thinking of fixing them to the truck not the camper.

Now I have seen your pictures it looks the obvious solution. Don't know why I didn't think about that solution

I saw these over there originally and thought I'd copy them, they are easily made up after all, but I couldn't decide how to fix them to mine without drilling holes in camper, I thought about a shallow tray with these as sides the camper would essentially sit in, then in the truck

If you knew where the studs were down on that bottom edge you could just fix into them I imagine, and properly sealed up that would be OK surely
