Before you rush to buy…. be very aware that Mercedes are known to apply the thinest paint finish to their vehicles of any European manufacturer. Just take a look at most 5+ year old Sprinters on the road and play spot the rust.

Ill agree with that. I had a four year old Vito that was rusting like a 1970's Vauxhall. It failed its second mot requiring welding. At the same time i owned a 35 year old VW that looked like it was six months old.

Just flagging up a potential new entrant to the market in the future. Personally not a fan of Mercedes.
Bet the price tag will make them an unrealistic option anyway.

Wasn't looking to shoot the messenger and, whilst on the subject of new pick-ups, I believe one of the French manufacturers (Renault?) and also Vauxhall are supposedly launching a model in 2016.

Have you any detail on either of those we could see?
I don't follow the motoring press much these days in fact the majority is gleaned from dog eared copy waiting in barbers

I have a friend who works for Mertrucks (sp?) in Ipswich, I'll ask her about it.
They might be better doing a GWagen Doka rehash.
I wonder if Landrover might pick up the ball with that double cab pickup concept based on the last generation Discovery? Now the new Discovery is out and is definitely aimed more at Footballers wives than any kind of working role (a more 'soft' soft-roader I have never seen) they should at least keep a hand in to producing something for 'real' use rather than shopping.

I totally agree with the durability issue regarding Mercedes. I have run Sprinter panel vans in my business for the last ten years, always fully loaded, often towing heavy plant trailers, all of them fitted with rear mounted cranes. Overall I can't fault the reliability or the performance, but the body finish leaves a lot to be desired. I would need to be firmly convinced that Merc had sharpened up their act regarding these issues before forking out, doubtlessly Mega bucks, for a new pick up.
