Of the two French forums (that I'm aware of) La Tortue seems to be the one favoured by self-builders. I've lurked around occasionally but haven't signed up yet.

Our' Claude is a member there, they do have campers 'off the Shelf' for the less pioneering, I just find them fairly friendly generally

looking through the trotters site i see what you mean about the standard of construction its pretty much professional
