I will say it appears some odd geographical anomaly as it seems Whitby is somehow just as far away as the Seaton

Actually Zildjian, Scotland is not far away at all. Scotland is where we live. You, on the other hand, seem to be a very long way away. Luckily, we can close our eyes and drive right past the flatlands on our way to our chosen mountain range in Europe, or further afield.
